A non-profit called Unicode Consortium largely decides which emojis get added to our keyboards.

Their 2026 picks just dropped: cracking face, pickle, meteor, lighthouse, and eraser.

So we now have a briny cucumber (pickle) and a standard cucumber (🥒).

Cumbersome?

STORY OF THE WEEK

"Kidults" take over the toy aisle

Adults used to buy toys for kids. Now they buy for themselves.

According to new Circana research, the US toy industry posted its strongest first half in six years, with grown-ups as the driving force. Adult-only households now make up 55% of all toy sales, and toy spending by those 18-and-older jumped 25% YoY.

And the market is big. Kidulting is now a ~$123 billion global opportunity, and Toys R Us (yes, it's still in business) is planning a 120-store US comeback aimed squarely at adults.

Analysts point to a rise in nostalgia, collectables, and general stress relief outlets as primary contributors to the trend.

In an age of "tech anxiety," the appeal of simple things we can un-box, hold in our hands, and rest on a shelf is immense. Ironically, social media - technology associated with the very anxiety we're running from - is fueling this "collecting culture."

Every great story has nuance…

HACK OF THE WEEK

Snap before you check

Ever have an airline lose your bag and get stuck filing a lost-luggage claim?

It's annoying (speaking from experience).

Here's how to make it less annoying…

Snap a few photos of your luggage, including opened- and closed-bag shots.

If a bag-pocalypse occurs, you've got instant proof of contents, which airlines like American now explicitly accept to speed up a claim.

SHOWER THOUGHTS

1. Whatever song is playing when your alarm goes off is ruined for life.

2. You spend the entire first year of your life at zero years old.

3. We press the remote buttons harder when the batteries are dying, as if the TV just needs to know we mean it.

4. Apple has Air, Amazon has Fire, Google has Earth; Microsoft really should make Water.

5. "PIN number" and "ATM machine" are both redundant.
